CSI: The Lady Beetle

Familiar to us but an alien species to the little people.

  1. We call them "Lady Bugs" and they're one of my favorites.
It would be great to have a relatively large one for our size!

    1. I typically call them lady bugs, too, but decided to use the term lady beetle, which pretty much summarizes the different types there are.

Can you imagine having one this size? It would be pretty incredible!

    1. It is. But it wasn't alive. This is one of the ones that end up in the house over the winter months...and doesn't make it out alive.

  3. They'd have plenty of specimens to examine here in Iowa! Right after harvest time sometimes they are really thick. I remember one year I could hardly go outside without them flying into my face--was a bit unpleasant!

    1. That's what it's like here in October for a day or two. Swarms of them! I read that it's the time when they are searching for their winter homes. Many of them end up indoors and I find them around the house right up until spring. Not all of them survive, of course, like the one in this photo.
